Fantastic Four (2015)

Before I watched the movie I read many reviews saying that this movie is even worse than the first two and I am sad to say they are right. Where the original two Fantastic Four movies were cheesy and never great, this is just all around a mess. Every time you see a part you think might be good because of the trailers it abruptly ends and you are left with a feeling of disappointment.

I went into the movies with low expectations and when I started feeling over-critical I started looking for good in it and found nothing. There is no character development, little meaningful dialogue, only short action segments, and a villain less developed than Malekith from the second Thor. At a time just after the likes of The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, and even Days of Future Past being as good as they were this movie fails on all levels.

Franklin Storm, played by Reg E. Cathey, is the only character that feels important to the story. The rest of the team seems as though they walked onto the set at the wrong time. Montages can show physical growth or action, but in this movie were used to substitute character development and it is sad. The motives of characters aren’t even weakly tied to their powers, everyone just exists.

I really tried to find good in this movie and when Dr. Doom comes forward I thought there might have been a slight possibility for redemption. That glimmer of hope was demolished with the pathetic goals of the Dr. however. While with other Disney/Marvel movies we ask for the scale to be brought down and things to be far less overwhelming, this movies could have used some of that gusto. Everything feels meaningless and there was no part in the movie where I even cared what would happen.
