Tron: Legacy

At first thought there is absolutely no reason to make this movie. Tron finished the story and although a great display of technological possibilities, I found to be a lackluster movie. Tron only showed me that sci fi movies could look cool but Star Wars already showed that 5 years earlier.
Tron: Legacy does not fall victim to the same flaws I feel the first movie did. Legacy picks up long after the events of the first movie in a world where Kevin Flynn has become CEO of Encom, the worlds largest video game company, and the world of the Grid has been developed to new unfathomable levels. Sam Flynn, the Son of Kevin, grows up without mother or his father who we later find became trapped in the grid in the beginning of the film. This leads Sam to enter the Grid in hopes of finding a later saving his father. All is not as it seems though. The key characters of the first Tron, Tron and Clu, are now villains seeking to escape the Grid and rule earth by eliminating, or as the film likes to say “derezing” Kevin Flynn. This makes for a film that I found incredibly exciting and well thought out. Plot twists are simple and early in the film, the motives of characters are clear and understandable, and lastly Daft Punk did a wonderful job with the soundtrack. When movies are predictable I tend to find myself bored, but this time the formula the movie followed was strong and kept me excited.
