Dredd

I just finished watching the newest remake from the Dredd series. These movies are loosely based off the comic books of the name “Judge Dredd” from the 70’s. Normally I am not a fan of overdone violence or gore, but this movie easily convinced me to overlook such issues. The film follows Judge Dredd, essentially a police officer and judge wrapped into one. America is now wasteland and society has generally fallen apart leaving the Judges in charge of enforcing the law through what ever means they deem necessary. This sets up the obvious story of Dredd going after the “bad guys” but with a twist. He now has a temporary partner who he is testing for the position of Judge. Dredd is a stern character with the law being his only ally. His partner however has not lost hope in humanity and has psychic abilities which make for thrilling breaks from the gun violence. The clashes between the two protagonists are not complicated and the end resolution is to be expected, but the action taking place through out the movie in their search for the villain is wild and fierce. Overall with simple characters, a simple plot and over the top action this movie will not disappoint a viewer searching for bold action, but others may be overwhelmed by the blood and chaos. I give the movie a 7/10. The movie perfectly fit into what I wanted to watch at the time, but is not for everyone.
7/10
